First movie I’ve seen in a long time, and I spent most of it going ‘bloody hell’ and enjoying the gnarliness rather than thinking about it any deeper. I’m too tired too.

Would recommend a viewing based on the cinematic experience alone though!

It doesn’t have the same furious momentum and kinetic energy as Fury Road, but that’s fine, it’s a different movie, and one I thoroughly enjoyed.

It has that digital wash that too many films suffer from now, which is doubly disappointing given how viscerally practical Fury Road feels, but the world building is very satisfying and I will take as much of this universe as I can get.

Please let George Miller make more.

This has been sat on my watchlist for years, I’ve finally gotten around to it and I was genuinely taken aback by it.

Much was made of the 3rd act when it came out, most of it not good, and i can see why I guess, but the arresting visuals and genuine tension got me.

I have a soft spot for grim, pretentious sci-fi that takes itself maybe a little too seriously, and this is certainly that.

This film left me bewildered and a little indifferent, which is surprising given the general consensus.

I think I'm disappointed because I just didn't feel anything.

I enjoyed aspects of it, the interactions among crew members on set and the naturalistic aesthetic, but it also felt like whilst Assayas was serving up commentary on a washed out auteur, out of touch with a modern audience, juxtaposed with the supposed shallowness of Hollywood action movies, I didn't feel like he was really making any particular point.

    But maybe that's the point?
