Mickey 17 is billed as a sci fi comedy but lacks the wit, world-building and interesting/coherent characters to pull it off.
Robert Pattinson gives a scene stealing dual performance that showcases great physical acting, and Mark Ruffalo channels his debauched cad of Poor Things into something more blatantly Trumpian. Both do the most notable work here with what is ultimately quite a flat script.
The anticlimactic final scenes and pointless subplots suggest that Boon Jong-ho had a longer original edit that was crudely cut, but for all that the film still feels flabby and unevenly paced.

The Substance is such a well crafted and shot body horror movie that for most of its runtime I could overlook the cringeworthy moments in its script and plot inconsistencies. And while I get why it went for "more is more" in the home straight, I would have left more satisfied if it had ended immediately after things had fully..."cronenberg-ed". Still wildly entertaining though and Moore and Qualley are excellent.
