    Good Time

    As someone who has grown to hate NYC on film in the 21st Century because most of films in this locale are rom-com boring rich white people films, this was a refreshing escapade into the more hidden margins of Queens, NY. The mistakes of white criminals still hurt black and brown people who have the misfortune of crossing their path. Overall, beautifully captured atmosphere, and the film took some bold turns. Great.

    This film seems to exist in the tradition of films that were trying to transcend the status quo reductionist dialogue on race and racism in their time, but don't really succeed even though there is progress in micro-doses here and there. Other films that belong to this tradition that come to mind are Powell & Pressburger's "Black Narcissus", Renoir's "The River".
