    Almost gave it 5 stars, but I can't stop thinking about Zendaya's toes hanging on for dear life in those open-toed wedge heels. Did the budget run out? You couldn't get her a half size up? Cmon

    Enjoyable throughout with just enough shock balanced with more intimate moments. The performances were excellent all around and the music design adds a nice touch to its more subtle scenes. I really dislike an unnecessary sacrifice trope however and found myself disagreeing with *that* part of the ending.

    I don't think I can say this film successfully achieves its 'anti-war' messaging however, rather it appeared more critical of American extremist nationalism than anything. Still, I don't think that derails the film at all, just that it does sometimes bury the central message of the film at some points.

    Too many over-glamorised scenic shots with gratuitous angles and jarring CGI failed to capture the environmental rawness expressed in the book.

    Andrew Garfield's strange accent was seemingly optional in a few scenes where he just said things in an American accent instead. The chokehold that Italian accent has on Adam Driver should also be studied.

    I had no idea what to expect, didn't expect so much sex. The problematicisms of the narrative aside it was engaging throughout and genuinely funny, with a sweet ending. The set designs, along with Emma and Mark's performances were the standouts of this film for me. I don't feel the need to watch it again, however.
