A classic case of a simple idea executed well.

    ★★

Alluda Majaaka excels in its over-the-top action choreography. The way this movie escalates is nothing short of brilliantly absurd.

That said, the absurdity did have the unfortunate side effect of making me not super moved or deeply invested in the film when it DOES attempt to pull at my heartstrings.

    It’s too imbalanced, you know?

The thing that makes this flick particularly special is its editing. Whenever there is a chaotic situation that involves an ensemble of characters, expect at least like 8 jump cuts in a 10 second sequence with half of them being reaction shots.

As a lover of organized chaos in comedy, I really relished those moments.

As for the comedy itself, it was at worst 90s average and at best, absolutely brilliant in an “is this really happening?!” Kind of way.

This film provided a fascinating exploration of a complicated and difficult moment in Japanese/Filipino/Women’s history...

And while nobody was trying to reinvent the wheel when it comes to the meta-film technique area, this film didn’t need all that to be interesting.

Honestly, I’m just thankful the wheel was used correctly this time!!! I love a movie that knows when to let the cinematographer do their job!

The ending is heartbreaking though. Like it was ridiculously abrupt. I REALLY REALLY wanted to just sit and explore the world of this film even more, but whatryagonnado?
