Intimate and emotional, combining the fantastic with the realities of a relationship and financial pressures, with a touching ending which is beautiful. All in all a novel take on the Midas myth with a gay twist.

This film shouldn't work, but it does. Manages to capture at least an aesthetic of late 70's leather bars and police homophobia and violence alongside a psychological thriller that's almost Freudian in its linking of Al Pacino's character's libido and death drive.

Come for the bar scenes, stay for Al Pacino being slapped across the face by a muscular man wearing only a jockstrap and a cowboy hat in a police interrogation room.
