Sleepy Hollow 1999
The supporting cast (namely Michael Gambon) and Emmanuel Lubezki’s cinematography are both great. Gotta love the foggy, gothic atmosphere. Unfortunately, the story is a bit lacking and feels needlessly complicated. It’s a real shame because there are many things working in favour of this film (including the gruesome deaths). Maybe I’ll like it more on an eventual rewatch.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore 2022
This is how you course-correct a franchise after a misstep. This film is far more intimate than the last one, and succeeds in making you care about the characters journeys. Additionally, the political aspect of the film is handled pretty well. Mads Mikkelsen is incredible as Grindelwald, whose characterization is far more brutal this time around. Dan Fogler and Jessica Williams also bring great energy to their respective roles as Jacob and Lally. While the film is pretty solid, it is held back by some occasional odd pacing and the withholding of some information from the audience.

All of Us Strangers 2023
A compelling film about loneliness and grief, and how it doesn’t necessarily fade with time. Andrew Scott gives a compelling performance as the lead character Adam, a man haunted by the ghosts of his past and all of the things left unsaid. While Scott is most well-known for his scene-stealing performances in Sherlock and Fleabag, this feels like his real breakthrough performance.
