I really liked the extended version of this, it really fleshed everything out and honestly I didn't feel the length. I love the way that Jackson was able to make a very satisfying middle piece with a great climax but not undermining the final piece. Using Sarumon as the primary villan really allows for this. Plus, the scene where Gandalf leads the charge into battle is absolutely SICK. It really has a much more epic scale than the first one and it benefits from being able to shed the exposition of the first movie.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001
I think these movies embody what one might call "Movie Magic" more than anything else. The trilogy is undeniably the most ambitious thing ever filmed, nothing else quite reaches the level of production as these movies and it feels like we may never see anything like it again.
The fellowship extended edition is very good, although I do think it lacks a little bit in world building in the beginning. Of course, how much longer could you reasonably make this…

Classic. I mean hot damn this one slaps.
Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti are on fire the entire movie, every scene has this momentum that never stops. Even during the sex scene, there is shooting.
A surprising amount of heart and political message in this one. Guns are fucking stupid, here look what they can do! So well shot and directed. Giamatti is just allowed to completely chew the scenery and the movie is better for it.Ultimately, this movie is about the kind of stuff joe biden had to do to become president. Harvesting children for their life force!
