A fun day at the theater for a procedural/whodunnit. Seems to be pretty clearly Soderbergh’s riff on some combo of Burn After Reading and Mr. And Mrs. Smith but the pacing was great, I was engaged with the plot, and it was all very smooth.
I do think Fassbender is leaning a little too much into the “coolly efficient and emotionless smart guy” typecast, let’s get him back to the kind of role he played in Hunger. He has more range than this
Like if you allowed a 2017 Reddit comments section to write an entire movie. Literally every part of it. It’s a cheap ripoff of Deadpool, which is already a really bad movie. Embarrassing that this is the only answer studios have to “Superhero movies are for kids” and they’re just making a children’s movie with a child’s sensibilities but adding gore and Le Epic Sir swearing
It is hard to explain how bad this movie was. I found almost no part of it enjoyable. It was insulting to the viewer in both how poor the filmmaking and acting itself was — from Cohen’s sometimes-there, sometimes-not accent to the incoherent pacing and method of storytelling — and more importantly, how much it conformed exactly to the predictable Sorkin morality tale. My eyes rolled through my skull at nearly every overly predictable turn in this movie.
