They don’t make movies like this anymore, and let’s be real…they never will again. Blazing Saddles is wild, ridiculous, and completely unfiltered in a way that feels almost rebellious now. It’s the kind of comedy that takes shots at everything and everyone, but somehow does it with charm and cleverness.
Mel Brooks knew exactly what he was doing, and the result is a film that’s as smart as it is stupid…in the best way possible. Gene Wilder and Cleavon Little…
Cool premise? Absolutely. Giant, roaming cities devouring each other? Sign me up! But sadly, the execution just didn’t live up to the concept. It had so much potential, but it felt like they threw us in the deep end without enough backstory to really care about what was happening.
Maybe starting with the history of how the cities ended up on wheels would’ve helped, it feels like that part of the story might’ve been more interesting than what we got.…

I’ve got to knock it down half a star, and honestly, it’s all because of Kate Capshaw’s screaming. It starts as funny, but by the 10th time, it’s like nails on a chalkboard. Painful.
That said, it’s still a lot of fun. It’s darker and messier than Raiders, but somehow, it works… most of the time.
