I consume far less media now than I did in my mid-20s, but I’m starting to wonder if Villeneuve is the finest filmmaker of his generation.

The cinematography is wonderful - lighting is great, and Lowery's eye is as intriguing as ever. Smart, practical editing has elevated a lovely script that takes a little too long to wrap up, and the narrative isn't as tight as it could be. But this solid film is anchored by all-around noteworthy performances and serves as a wonderful ode to Redford's career (fans will encounter some nice surprises).

This is intentionally vague — apologies in advance.

The cast is spectacular. Bruno Delbonnel’s cinematography is gorgeous. I overall found the stories very engaging, all for various different reasons. I personally didn’t love the ending as much as the rest of the film, but that’s really a “taster’s choice” statement.

This is the Coen Brothers’ finest work since No Country for Old Men, in my opinion. The anthology structure may throw some viewers off, but I believe it’s certainly worth checking out.
