So much fat on this bone. Even in 1968 the Oscars knew this one wouldn’t hold up. Although it’s a huge production and adaptation of a popular musical, it is only recognized for art direction, costumes, and score — even the latter is a stretch.
At worst, this is a bloated musical adaptation that follows the least interesting plot (the Arthur-Genny-Lance love triangle) to a very boring conclusion. At best, Richard Harris is dreadfully compelling as idealistic cuckold, King Arthur. …

Really enjoyable. Supposedly a fore-runner to French New Wave, this film possesses a groundedness and heart that keeps the more absurdist aspects from getting too weird. I wish New Wave was more like this.
Varda’s camera is remarkable, whether strolling the Paris streets or swinging between singers at rehearsal.
