This aged nicely. It is my favorite film adaptation of the novel. None of the remakes come close to this beautiful film Robert Wise was able to create. The dialogue was interesting, important, and captivating, unlike the others, without deviating from the plot at all. The camera angles did a great job capturing moments of “insanity”. The only other remake I absolutely love is the Netflix series, however, they are vastly different plots based on the same story.

El Hoyo is a film that tackles the socioeconomic realities of capitalism and how the government and the privileged feeds into the huge power imbalance. Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia’s obvious metaphors representing the economic class hierarchy and the privilege of those who are on the higher levels, dictates what the reality for those on the lower levels will be. We see how naive Imoguiri is for believing solidarity can be achieved with reason. There is no room…
