One of the best movie theater experiences I ever had. Not really an “action film”, but I was constantly on the edge of my seat waiting for the next fight to kick off. One-take camera work is incredible and shots / music really nail the tone of crawling through no mans land.
Not quite as terrible as many make it out to be, but this movie is just… ODD. So many time cuts without needed context, such a drab color palate mixed with unfitting cheery music, and a ton of focus on Napoleon & Joséphine’s relationship that never really went anywhere meaningful… and also so much gratuitous sex in the first half of the movie (Out-of-pocket doesn’t even begin to describe it). The main problem this movie (and really the whole Hobbit trilogy) has is that it’s taking a single book and stretching the story much longer than was intended, which creates all sorts of useless filler and nonsensical side plots.
