A very good Soderbergh-coded thriller complete with a stacked ensemble cast, precise execution, and icy cool tone. Kinda wish this was actually a Soderbergh thriller though, because a Cliff Martinez score would really put this over the top for me.

Kraven the Hunter aside, J.C. Chandor has long been a guy whose films I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. Hoping he has more Margin Calls left in the chamber for us Chandor-heads.

Also, Paul Bettany slaps and I’d love to see him in something like this again, and have to say it, I miss Spacey, he’s mesmerizing on screen.

Quirky indiecore dramas have never really been my bag, and unfortunately, this didn’t do much to change my mind lol. I appreciated the film’s open-endedness and found Eisenberg’s subtle but assured direction pleasant, but the central odd-couple dynamic just didn’t woo me.

Culkin and Eisenberg play exactly to type (and do it well enough), but I clearly found it more disappointingly rote than Academy voters seemed to. In the end, the real star of the show for me was the film’s second unit—their photography of the Polish locations was lovely.

An admirably big swing by Patel but, unfortunately, a bit of a miss. Admittedly, I’m not a huge action junkie of this particular variety, but you certainly cannot say this holds its weight against the likes of the Raid films or highs of the John Wick franchise, like I see many trying to. Its biggest wins come from the fresh Indian setting, committed performances, and great sound design… plus one dope heavy metal needle drop. But the film is poorly…
