Equal parts brutal and beautiful (I guess that’s the point).
The first half was magnetic, the incredible score and the use of those under-bus/car shots do a great job of infusing the film with this euphoric, exciting, American dream-style story. I think the intermission really helps to break the film up but I can see why people don’t like the second half. It is very much a meeting of the dream with the harsh realities of life.
