  Honestly this movie isn’t as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I mean, it’s not amazing but it’s perfectly fine weird entertainment. Knowing that this was based on an opera the filmmaker was developing makes it a bit more interesting to watch. Opera is about big emotions and big stories. What’s bigger than the story of Emilia Perez? It’s not about being trans or being Mexican, these are all just plot elements and backdrops for a classic tale…

  Perfectly passable but lacks focus. A good biopic needs something from the subject’s life to focus on. 

  Is the focus the romantic relationships? Kind of but it’s not a particularly interesting story. 

  Is the focus the music? What exactly are we learning about BD through watching him play his early hits? Not much, other than that he is talented. 

  Is the focus his revolution of music? I guess, but that just seems to be a just another event that happens…

  A lost little gem. Hardly a spectacular movie but it has a very tender heart and you can tell all involved loved and believed in this story. If anything, you see through the whole movie how everyone believes in something and loves so strongly even when it’s not exactly moral. Zelly nearly kidnapping Phoebe to get her out of her abusive home life. Willie never revealing his true identity because he loves Zelly so much and is afraid of her…
