    I love Anora now. I felt much more connected to the character the second time around. And she was unlike any protagonist I’ve seen before. It’s really hard to put her in a box. She’s not just a damaged stripper.

    Like all Sean Baker films, the most marginalized & hated people in society are provided with dignity. And I can’t have more love for that.

    I hate-watched the first half, because I mistook what it was doing. I thought it was about to be a big cliche—like a modern, more-grimy Cinderella story—which is why I felt so hateful. I thought Sean Baker—the filmmaker who brought us truly radical films like Tangerine and Red Rocket—was betraying his roots. But then we got the original, revolutionary, and absolutely magical experience that I hoped for and expected.

    I usually detest hagiographies of rich and powerful white people. The focus on money/power as any reason to care about someone is often so sickening to me. Aren’t we controlled enough by these people and that sorta thinking? But I’ve long known something about Martha Stewart is different—at least in her post-prison era.
