A movie that was so clearly rewritten and reshot several times before release. Wonderful example of why make a movie without a complete thought. Franchise, names of actors, and cool action can only take a movie so far and for this movie, those three did all the heavy lifting

The first movie was a personal story of a Gladiator simply seeking revenge. This movie follows it up by making the audience think it is a similar story, until the opportunity for revenge is presented and both the audience and the protagonist realize this isnt just about revenge. It is about the hope and dream of Rome vs corruption and violence.

I don’t need to talk about the mind blowing cgi, the wonderful music, the intricate story, the deep and developed characters and their archs, or the incredible attention to every detail. But one thing I want to praise this movie for, is the subtle world building around the events of humanity. This is a movie about monkeys but that doesn’t mean what happens to humans isn’t happening, its there, just not focal.
