Hauling ass back to the year of our lord 2020, I probably would've told you that Joker was the greatest movie ever. Maybe it was something about the pandemic that thrust the male loneliness epidemic back into the limelight, and Joker seemed almost prophetic in it's focus on exactly that. I was, of course, completely fine - I was 13 - but nonetheless as a burgeoning movie lover I just found something about it so compelling.

Not a bad little joint, I've gotta say. Has an old-school cool feel to it which I dig, and chooses its length pretty perfectly. The start is ripped straight from Steve Buscemi's escape in Reservoir Dogs, and the rest feels like a broadened imagining of that scene. Neat.

So you found out you're not a businessman after all.
    Just a man.
    An ancient race.

The opening scene. A windmill creaks and groans. Rotten floorboards choke out hollow thuds under the weight of rotten men. The Old West is rendered a dying world, and white-hat-vs.-black-hat morality is dying with it. The first hints of modernity are marching even into the film's score, Charles Bronson's harmonica crying out over the stinging electric guitar.

Dare I call it the greatest Spaghetti Western ever?
