  grotesque. great acting, clothing, and visuals but i wasn't into the story

  Edit: I read bella’s letter and skimmed a lot of the original book and i think my major issue here is the screenplay. the book seems nuanced and pretty decent and she’s much less baby brained in it. the film only portrays candle’s (male) fantasy of what happened which bella refutes.

  This was pretty wild but like in the most subdued way possible. About an hour in I paused to skim the wikipedia page and confirmed that it was partially inspired by The Brothers Karamasov (and also by Chekhov who I haven't read but is now on my shortlist). The literary vibes are pretty obvious in the dialogue. Some of it felt like something a novelist would write about a character, not necessarily something someone would say to another person. I did enjoy the level of potency/precision but it had me absolutely agape at points. It's a really excellent character study!
