Truly awful, and this is coming from someone who really enjoyed the book. I had remembered the book as being a bit meandering, heavier on mood and atmosphere than plot, but it had one of the scariest endings I can ever recall reading, especially the audiobook version. I was really looking forward to seeing that on film.

On paper, the plot for this movie sounds great. I found the actual film pretty dull. There are moments of interest, but it's way too slow overall. I didn't find the metaphorical dream especially compelling, and the acting is so staid. I didn't really buy into the main character's motivations especially for how he acts near the end.
