This broke me and then made me whole again. Subtle and quiet and serene but cuts deep and leaves an impact. Beautiful (aesthetically and narratively and thematically) exploration of grief, existence, heritage, memory…My heart hurts but is also so full. This movie is pure philosophy and humanity and magic.

Old 2021
This movie is BANANAS. The script is so bad…. But oh my god I would be lying if I said I didn’t have a grand OLD time. And if we can’t have some over the top fun with a movie about a beach that makes ya old, what even is the point of anything. Also, genuinely satisfying “twist” just when I was setting myself up for disappointment in that department. Never underestimate Shyamalan’s penchant for bold swings & gotta respect his flair for ridiculousness.

Halloween Kills 2021
This movie is… wow yeah it is not good.
Clunky, awkward script and really odd storytelling choices, not enough kills considering ‘Kills’ is in the title, social commentary that either feels underbaked or way too obvious and overdone (not that I expect nuance from my slasher movies but…) basically, I agreed with all professional critics who said this movie is a hot mess even though I really went in with an open mind and even a dash of optimism, like…Translated from by -
Atlantics 2019
I respect Mati Diop so much for what she did in this movie - the attempt at blending of genres, and the subtle, intimate, naturalistic form, giving it a slow but steady pace and gritty-but-beautiful almost documentary feel. For me, the more supernatural elements were my favorite and I wish there was more of them. At times the film felt like it was doing too many things, all meant to relate and mesh well together but for me fell a little short in that respect (i.e., social commentary plus mystery plus coming of age plus ghost story plus art house drama…)
