  Did I enjoy every minute of this? Not really. Was I quite bored at points? Yes, of course. That's the point. If I was bored watching it, imagine how bored she must be.

  Will I be thinking about this sporadically for the next two months? Oh yes.

  Barbie 2023

  Very weird and not necessarily in the way it was intended, I don't think. Occasionally pretty funny, and occasionally not so, Mattel's Barbie was very limited by the fact that it was essentially a film length advert (as other cynics have (correctly, in this Letterboxd reviewer's humble opinion), pointed out). Politically and emotionally it had all the boons and pitfalls and contradictions that one might expect from a (capital L) Liberal piece of celluloid in 2023.

  This ticks an awful lot of boxes. Looks good. Sounds good. Good performances, too. It is able to be an incredibly tight, fully enclosed sci-fi film, plot-wise, which simultaneously raises ethical and metaphysical questions for us all to ponder. Impressive stuff.
