thinking about when I was fifteen and showed this to the girl I was madly in love with. she didn’t get the movie, so naturally my crush disappeared. was I a dramatic bisexual or a pretentious cinephile first?

Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain

    ★★½

loved the first half, which felt like it really captured the early & enigmatic days of Tony.

hated the second half, which felt gross and exploitative and more about Asia Argento than the documentary’s subject.

I love and miss Anthony Bourdain. He was a deeply complicated person, but at his core was so much curiosity and a bone-deep goodness. I wish this doc did a better job of capturing that.

    scenes that made me cry:

    1) at the cathedral when the activists were heckling the archbishop (truly iconic)
    2) Ray Navarro’s speech (rest in peace king ❤️)
    3) unnamed man scattering the ashes of his partner in front of the White House (this is when the sobbing began)

gays are so fucking resilient. so proud of my community, always
