  Into the Woods 2014

  It’s a solid adaptation. It cuts a lot of Act Two to a fault, and James Corden deserves to live in a gutter for the rest of his life, but the redeeming factors (Meryl Streep’s Last Midnight, Agony, Anna Kendrick’s princess-like vibrato) save it from true mediocrity. Far from the best musical adaptation and far from the worst.

  This is actually one of the worst films I’ve ever seen. The songs were mediocre and vapid, the google translate Spanish was laughable, and the narrative choices were bizarre. I can’t believe this is a multiple nominee. It’s bland neoliberal bullshit packaged as an important message about the trans identity that is underhandedly harmful to queer people.

  This film is so deeply fucked up, which serves as an excellent vehicle for its central critique of patriarchy and consumerism.

Following
