What ever notions I had on what a Powell and Pressburger would be have been completely demolished within a couple of movies. 49th Parallel is a movie that is just as charming as it is terrifying. A group of Nazi's officers during WW2 find themselves in Canada. And if you think, Canadia's general charm and Poutine was going sway them for their evil ways, you are wrong. 49th Parallel was a propaganda movie meant to instill fear into the hearts…

    Contraband

    ★★★½

Contraband was far more delightful than I was expecting. Though I am not sure what I was expecting. Conrad Viedt is absoutley charming as Anderson, Han Anderson, as he runs around London during the Phoney War (before the bombs started falling) chasing Nazi spies. There's a couple of real nice and fun sequences.

    The Thief of Bagdad

Since Schlock & Awe will having a Press Play on Pressburger and Powell series, I thought it would be nice to start with a warm up. Though The Thief of Bagdad had many hands on it, one of those hands were Powell's.

There's a lot of charm to the movie, So much so, Disney lifted large portions of it for their 1992 Aladdin. The Thief of Bagdad is very much a Arabian Nights structure, these little adventures our hero goes on as part as a whole. The movie feels really inventive for a fantasy movie for 1940.

    I liked it/
