at risk of being pretentious/emo on the letterboxd,

watching my parents' struggle with their own parents' cognitive decline permanently reframed my view of them. it was the pivot point in my adolescence where my folks became truly Human and Relatable. i'd always known *logically* that they were real people, who had once been young, who had fears and flaws and faults and failures just like me, but elder care woes made me fully internalize those truths. elder care is dark,…

felt like getting repeatedly punched in the head. Muni and BART seats shot gorgeously. perfectly accurate portrayals of every SI graduate i've known. everything i've ever felt for san francisco all at once. a beautiful love-hate for the modern-day american megacity. i wanna ride a cablecar and bludgeon a salesforce executive

i loved this movie as a teenager. i thought it was one of the all-time greats. i saw it *thrice* during the initial theatrical run.

in the intervening decade between my last viewing and now, i had convinced myself that the movie was Not That Good Actually, and that i simply Hadn't Seen Enough Movies then.

    WRONG!!!!!!!!

little banker boy with the glasses... maybe we could play d&d together... such a gentle woodland spirit...nymphlike...

speechless and overwhelmed, not b/c it was "that good", but because we live in hell, and nearly every scene would bomb in a current-day focus test. we have learned nothing from the art or the history that precedes us and we are all going to die hahahahaha
