Given the comedy firepower actors of Ferrell and Witherspoon, this movie is shockingly bad. Great concept that just fizzled. It clearly had no thought out ending. It literally devolves and makes you embarrassed for everyone involved.
Timmy embodies everything Bob from the mumbling conversations, incessant smoking and gnarly fingernails to the beautiful poetry, defiance, and melody that pours out seemingly from thin air.
Excellent style of music biopic - narrow it to a short era, include a lot is side characters to supplement (Joan Baez, Pete Seeger and Johnny Cash are equally amazing in the portrayals) and make it obviously idealized and fictionalized.
Also don’t focus too heavily on where the songs come from or what Bob thinks while creating them. That’s very Bob in itself to keep that stuff to himself.
