Shadow of a Doubt 1943
I’ve seen people knock this one because you can tell that Cotton is rotten from the jump. But I think the suspense comes more from the cat and mouse with the niece. Their relationship (although somewhat creepy through modern eyes) and how it goes from her wish fulfillment to utter horror is the strength of the picture.

The Haunting of Rosalind 1973
Definite "Dark Shadows" vibe from this gothic melodrama TV movie (part of the fabled ABC Wide World of Mystery (may eps are still lost). It's Henry James so you get ghosts that may be real or may be hysteria. The camera loves young Sarandon but the rest of the cast is pretty good too. Watched on the UCLA film archive live stream mainly for the amazing Amanda Reyes followup discussion.
