A tense non-stop one take zombie(ish) apocalyptic horror that’s a good time but doesn’t really have anything that’ll stick around your brain for long afterwards.

The Hitcher 1986
Nihilistic and using dream/nightmare logic to great effect, the tension starts ramping up less than 5 minutes in and just does not let up until the credits roll. Hauer is terrifying and his presence is felt constantly even when he’s not on screen.

Star Trek: Section 31 2025
A delightfully awful action comedy (the unfunny kind) roughly squashed into a Star Trek box. It doesn’t work at all but I will thank the execs at Paramount for making this a TV movie rather than a series because I am an idiot who would have sat through the whole thing anyway, so I appreciate only having to waste 90 minutes of my life rather than 8 or 9 hours (or ‘your Earth hours’)

The Buildout 2023
Well performed and atmospheric with shades of horror and sci-fi. Two friends go into the desert for one last trip as one of them is going to stay there as part of a religious group/cult.
Very similar in mood and style to the films of Moorhead and Benson and although I wasn’t completely blown away there’s more than enough here to make me keep an eye on whatever Zeshaan Younus does next.
