  Beautifully crafted (and performed), but the misery is so unrelenting that the inevitable attempt at a touching ending in the last five minutes (and we know this is coming especially because it’s very clear where this snail metaphor is going) feels unearned and unconvincing.

  I’m sure there’s a lot that I missed but in my experience of both the book and the movie, I found the themes that connect these stories so broad (and ultimately kind of…I guess blunt?) that they feel like they could be used to connect nearly any fictional stories.
