Cary Fukunaga letting Fares Fares and Haley Bennett vibe in Africa!
A film whose main goal is to be as edgy and pop-cultural as possible. The problem is the film suffers from bad acting, terrible and murky action-scenes, an almost non-existent story and a silly villain. David Ayer delivers a badly directed film which desperately tries to be funny, cool and memorable. "Oh, look at us, yeah, we wanna do an edgy fucking badass movie! Hell yeah!"
It's sad to see.
I was very curious beforehand to see the old master Jackie Chan star in a serious and dark thriller. I was relieved and happy to see that he sure indeed delivers with some heavy emotional scenes balanced with high intense action. Impressive and entertaining.
The transition between action and emotion as a whole however, is not always the smoothest. The justification for certain actions sometimes get lost in the sauce, as is common in action heavy revenge movies.
