Underwhelming zombie plot and action combined with grating musical numbers. I would have happily forgiven bad songs if the zombie stuff was more inspired or vice versa.
I do think putting a saccharine musical into a zombie movie has potential just for the sheer comedic whiplash of going from gore and violence to big numbers. This one misses the mark, though. Happiness of the Katakuris this ain't.
When you're in the pinball zone, erotic monologues flow right past you.
Maybe not exactly a great movie, but one with some fascinating scenes. Despite being very firmly routed in a time and place that is almost inconceivable from today's vantage of on-demand pornography and performative self-surveillance it still has a way of tapping into the same intersection of fear, desire, and discovery that makes sexuality so damn thorny today.
I think this could be made today about streamers/cam performers/chat moderators. Would anybody watch a much hornier and seedy Searching?
This is probably the largest budget B-movie I have ever seen and I loved every minute of the big, stupid thing.
This is the movie that you always hoped you would see whenever a big budget western adaptation of Godzilla comes along and never get. Someone finally did it.
Don't misunderstand, this is a BAD movie. The dialogue is awful and the one liners are unbelievably terrible. The environmental theme is far too sincere and there are countless other problems…
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Great opening and a strong finish, but wow do I hate how John Baxter dies. Surprise! Murderous little person! Not only has that not aged well, but it is unsatisfying. Sure, the rest of the ending is fantastic with how everything comes into focus with how John has been seeing premonitions of his own death and funeral. It is a shame that something more poetic and less arbitrary couldn't have been found to better suit the rest of the film.
