One of my favorite movies of all time, I’ve seen it 3 or 4 times. It’s almost hard to talk about because it means so much to me. I think the movie is ultimately about shame, and people desperately seeking true and real connection and intimacy, and how silly and weird yet heartbreaking and literally life or death the stakes of this pursuit are. There is no perfect antidote to shame or perfect path to connection but finding community is the closest we as human beings may get.

Dream Scenario 2023
Very funny and deeply sad exploration of the profound emptiness of fame and the meaningless circus of cancellation in our current culture…Nic Cage expertly portrays a human black hole consumed with professional envy and desperately clinging to a fantasy escape from his passivity but unwilling to cultivate any real strength of character or meaning in his life. I think I would have this guy muted on twitter. My only gripes are that it felt a bit moralizing and this is another movie of late where I’m not sure if it would land if you aren’t a pretty specific flavor of extremely online.
