Contemplating Conclave. Hmm.
a very fun, silly prestige drama about electing the new pope. This has come at a rather interesting time, with reports of Pope Francis' ill health.
I'm seeing a lot of praise for Conclave's melodrama and pettiness, but I can't help feeling the silly, high-school vibe was unintentional. The tone of the film was very serious, and the score very over-the-top and manipulative. Although I enjoyed this, it might've benefited from a more playful tone.
