  This is a great example of why sometimes the author of the source material should not write the screenplay.  I think Matheson was too close to the material and, not being able to see the forest for the trees, didn’t work important backstories and information into the final film. The book is absolutely terrifying.

  Mike Flanagan is a genius, and a fucking miracle worker.  With Doctor Sleep, he had the daunting challenge of merging two worlds belonging to Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick.  While Kubrick’s The Shining is an incredible film, one thing it is not is being a faithful adaptation of the original novel written by Stephen King.  King has quite the history of disparaging the film, which he feels was all flash and no substance.
