All the right choices were made adapting this — multinational corporations are a far more compelling villain that Communists, and there are few actresses who could take up Lansbury’s mantle as well as Streep does. But nothing beats the thrill of seeing the garden/brainwashing scene in the original, and nothing here quite rises to level.

Miss Sloane 2016
Let Max Richter score more films and let Christine Baranski have more roles where she’s onscreen for longer than 30 seconds.
The first half of this film is a lot of reasonably necessary but unenjoyable yapping — and this is fine someone who adores yapping. It’s all meetings with people explaining things to people who already understand said things because the writers are trusting that the audience knows nothing. At least have your ‘expert’ explain things to onscreen idiots, rather than the people who are meant to be their intellectual near-equals.

Finding Your Feet 2017
Imelda Staunton is acting for a BAFTA in this like she doesn’t realise she’s in an extended Victoria Wood sketch with one third the jokes.
