North Dallas Forty 1979
Can't help but compare to Slap Shot, although it seems unfair as this movie has a more narrow focus and slightly more serious tone. While Slap Shot embraces the wildness of the players off and on the rink, North Dallas Forty uses it as a distraction. Slap Shot rides the line between comedy and drama about the corporatization of sports very well. North Dallas Forty, on the other hand, goes far deeper into the effects of treating sport as a business.
I enjoyed the movie but I wish I had gone into it not expecting the football version of Slap Shot.
