I caught it at a special AMC screening in Somerville MA. This was fun. Ed Haris does his leading man thing. High stakes the whole time.
A nuclear warhead is lost miles under the sea when an unidentified presence disrupts the proper functions of a US Navy sub. A private diving company is asked to help... but instead of finding the nuclear bombs, they befriend a brilliant alien race. It's wacky, a bit too long, but hits all the right emotional beats.
Slow burn, fun ride. Not a Cronenburg, but just as eery. Loved this pretty couple learning to accept themselves as they are, man-eating monsters in the form of humans. Beyond Luca's depiction of cannibalism as a direct allegory for social outcasts, at its core, the film is about two people trying to find a reason to keep living. More than that, they need a reason to rationalize their existence knowing it comes at a detriment to humanity. When the pair find a purpose in love, it opens the doors for a wildfire of passion and instability.
