Horror comedies are my jam, and this one has all the right ingredients: a great cast, gay lead characters (yay!), a snowy cabin setting, awkward parents, and supernatural shenanigans. It’s often very funny—so what’s missing? Heart, purpose, arcs, tone, and character development… all casualties of a truly terrible script. These poor actors are working overtime to make sense of the material, and I can only imagine the editor struggling to cobble together coherent scenes. The direction is flat, with zero…

I love when micro indie films swing for the fences. Not everything here lands, but there are some great ideas at play. The concept of a door leading to other dimensions isn’t new, but using it in a horror setting is always fun. Unfortunately, I lost the thread by the third act, and the found footage format just doesn’t work in this case. Also… the talking dog? A bold (i.e. bad) choice. That said, the cast seems to be having fun—maybe that’s the real point.

How could you not enjoy a screwball comedy with the ghost of legendary Pedro Infante possessing the body of a ne’er-do-well and trying to fix the schlub’s life in exchange for getting into heaven? It’s not rocket science and it doesn’t have to be with the music of the Mexican heartthrob, a fun cast, an a touching story of men overcoming machismo? And they stick to their guns to the end. Si señor!

I can't decide if this film is a campy delight or patently offensive. It was made 15 years ago by a French director so cultural sensitivities seemed to be set aside. At the center is a hetero marriage in distress, a new move to an old house, and five gay ghosts in 70s club garb who elect to "Queer Eye" the guy. There is a message of acceptance as well as the chummy relationship the straight man forges with the gay ghosts. And the McDonald's loving psychic was likely the best use of product placement I've ever seen.
