  “the erotic is about saying yes”
  it's not really a film about sex but it being the smuggled-in signifiers of all other things in life (or rather the ultimately signified), which is also why it feels kind of flat. an incessant chain of affirmative metaphors, yes, yes, and yes, the horizon is broader than the work could ever cover as is often the case with films directed by egomaniacs (scandinavians). but eroticism is actually more about metonymy. trying to wrap my head around the fact that there's still three more hours to this...

  Another claustrophobic menagerie presented by Fassbinder with fucking insane camerawork by Michael Ballhaus. This is also a rare/ queer case where the figure of the Child does not signify futurity or is not "reproductive" so to speak but merely functions as a catalyst for the evil latent in the bourgeois household, which is quite a cynical position. Some scenes remind me of Duras' Destroy, she said. Margit Carstensen is truly one of most beguiling european actresses alongside Delphine Seyrig in france. Also, not everyone could survive a polycule...
