As the opening monologue points out, most war movies prior to this dealt with the battle. A well-conceived drama with enough humour to stave off the darker elements, and a brilliant all-round cast of cynics and wise-guys equally. An earnest film, but all the more memorable for it.

It Might Get Loud 2008
Getting three legendary axe players from different generations in the same room was triumph enough, but instead this doco envelopes much more into its subject matter. Filled with fascinating insight as well as Guggenheim's characteristically polished documentation, it caters to a discussion of the instrument that inspires so many. In turn, it contains some inspirational moments - there are fewer special sights than seeing Jimmy Page - the master of the six-strings - playing air guitar to his old 45s like any old person would their favourite youth tunes
