based on the media hype i was expecting this to be incomprehensible, a slog, tedious. and i found it to be none of those things! it is light and entertaining and interesting! i don’t think it’s flawless by any means, but it feels more like an almost masterpiece than a fascinating disaster.
the movie does have some issues, namely, what are the actual ideas and debates cesar is always talking about wanting to talk about? etc. i mostly saw it as a rumination on life and aging. i loved how theatrical it was - it often felt like a play. i laughed when jason schwartzman started playing drums
