  Child's Play 1988

  Child's Play is of course a classic! The original and the best Chucky movie, the effects are still amazing - no frickin' CGI here, people, just puppetry, animatronics and talent - and the film walks a lovely line between chills and absurdity without falling over the line like some of the sequels. The climax is brilliantly tense - that is one mean mother of a doll! - and the moment, exactly halfway through the picture, when we finally see Chucky come to life is just wonderfully deranged. "You stupid bitch! I'll teach you to **** with me!"
  Absolute classic.

  Terror Train 1980

  ★★★½ Added

  Jamie Lee Curtis earns her "Scream Queen" title again in this entertaining late 70s slasher. Oddly slow paced at times, but well made and acted and builds to a decent climax with a genuinely surprising left-field twist. Fairly good really.

  A Christmas Horror Story 2015

  William Shatner adds some appreciated oldskool class (the cast is otherwise completely unknown to me) as a radio DJ trying to maintain Christmas cheer as his small town begins falling apart around him in this festive-themed modern horror anthology that is actually really good fun.

  Very entertaining and solid 70s thriller. I was particularly delighted to see that one of McShane's terrorists was Christopher Ellison, aka Frank Burnside from The Bill!

Following
