Interesting movie!
It's a bit all over the place, both thematically and formally. Thematically, the movie tries to grapple with a lot of themes, but I'm not sure it goes far enough with any of them to say something truly interesting in the end.
Furthermore, I'm a bit confused by the message at the very end ("the destination etc."), and how we are supposed to take it.

The editing and mise-en-scène are simply breathtaking at times. There are moments when you think that the visuals are out of this world, and when taking into account the fact that this was filmed in 1927... The bridge scene at the beginning is one of the most astounding moments I've seen.
Shoutout to the accompanying group at the screening I saw at La Cinémathèque. Their music score was perfect for the film.

Went to see this litterally on the first time slot it was available lol.

Joking aside, I really enjoyed this! More epic in scope than most biopics, more detailed and ambitious than most blockbusters. This is full of nolarisms while also being much more character-driven than most of his films.
