  things i did not expect going into this:

  a) actually enjoying gwyneth paltrow's presence
  b) shipping adopted siblings so hard
  c) finding my new fav song on repeat
  d) said song leading up to the most traumatic scene that has somehow also healed me

  things i did expect:

  a) the yummiest color palette
  b) gorgeous gorgeous symmetry
  c) tears
  d) doggo
  e) dead doggo :(

  impossible to look away but so utterly heartbreaking to watch. 

  basel’s harrowing account of the forced expulsion of masafer yatta is only one out of millions of palestinians who continue to be oppressed everyday. sitting in silence as we all watched the credits roll in our comfort, knowing the suffering that persists today, struck me with such an immense sense of guilt and helplessness.

  a glorious cinematic experience

  BUT

  it's impossible not to envision the long ongoing palestinian struggle for freedom when watching this. a film depicting the oppression of a society directly inspired by the arab world, played and made by anything but, leaves a questionable aftertaste in the mind.

  i'd like to believe dune - the novel - isn't the result of MENA appropriation, but rather an inspiration to develop a rich sci-fi lore that seeks to bring attention to harmful western…

  Watching this in regular screens was truly so eye-opening. 

  …and I mean that in every literal sense of the opposite.
