Despite the bizarre plot, the treatment never feels fantastical. It is rooted in realism and forces one to witness the underbelly of the Egyptian society, where poverty oppresses women the most - a universal theme there. At times it was a difficult watch, but the filmmaker turns that around slowly and steadily as we watch our protagonist take control over her life.
