To me, this is pure cinema. A young, first time director getting very generous creative control over his project. Speaking metaphorically, it just so happened that this first time director hit this home run to moon, let alone outside the park. Good Will Hunting 1997
This is one of my lower 5s, but obviously I still think it’s a masterpiece. Damon is brilliant, but even more brilliant to me is the late great Robin Williams. The cinematography feels raw and never excessive, given the concept.
I genuinely think the “it’s not your fault” scene is one of the greatest, and most emotional, scenes to me. Sean is by far one of my favourite characters in all of film and it’s wonderful he’s played by Robin Williams. It’s like the cherry on top.

Packed cinema, peak biopic/sports film, and people crying at a wonderful finale.
I don’t often give films a five star on a first viewing but holy shit was I blown away. I am a massive wrestling fan. I’ve been watching wrestling on and off since 2008. However, this is not only a wrestling film. This is a beautifully crafted masterpiece that pays respect to the legendary Von Erich family and the sport/entertainment of professional wrestling.
