  Perfect Blue 1997

  Haven’t watched anime in ages. Outgrew the typical shonen vibe which now seems grating. 

  This film blew me away. It tells a mature story in a “magic realism” way that reminds me of a Murakami novel, and the subject is still relevant today.

  How weird is celebrity? And online fandom? This film is extremely prescient of the social media age where a lot of these horrific events play themselves out regularly.

  The animation itself is beautiful and haunting, and the storytelling plunges you in the descent into insanity the protagonist suffers through.
